Christ and Culture – The Christian in Society

Summer 2006 Intensive Course

Brochure | Poster

2005 class

Come join us in beautiful Laramie, Wyoming for a timely and invigorating course on just what it means to be a Christian in the world today. Taught by a seasoned and respected teacher in the Church, Dr. Steven A. Hein, this year's intensive course promises to be another excellent, in-depth, and challenging investigation into a topic that we all struggle with day to day.

Christians find themselves continually on the defensive in the public sectors of life as political correctness declares expressions of faith offensive. How should we respond? Where is Christ in relation to culture and issues of public life? What role should government play in matters of values and morality?

This course is designed for the thinking Christian (clergy or layman) who is looking for answers and clarity on the Christian's role in society. If you are looking for real substance on these issues, along with interesting and thoughtful discussions with like-minded Lutheran Christians, this is a course you simply cannot pass up. Join us!

Dr. Hein has been giving these summer intensive courses in Laramie since 2000 and they are consistently enjoyable and interesting.

"Every time I attend one of these courses (and I've done it four years in a row) I come away refreshed and thankful for the opportunity. You get to immerse yourself in a thoroughly Lutheran understanding of God's Word, and you get to share lively conversation with some terrific people. It really makes a lasting impact on life as well as lasting memories." -- Matt Kaufman

There is nothing like Laramie and some reflection with thoughtful Lutherans to help understand how much God loves us.

A typical day during this week sees us gathering early at St. Andrews. We then kick off our day with an absolutely killer morning worship service with Pr. Marcus Zill & organist Dr. Stephen Hoffman. This gets us re-oriented to study God's word in depth. Then a full day of study, breaking for lunch sometime around noon. We usually break for the day at about 3pm with time to make plans for the evening. After all, Laramie is a true Western town and offers some excellent dining, scenery and entertainment.

As for logistics, Laramie is a couple hour drive from Denver International Airport. Alternatively, Great Lakes Airlines flies into Laramie Aiport. They code share with both United and Frontier (so you can book with either of those two airlines into Laramie) and it's a pretty short flight from DIA to Laramie. We're still working on lodging but if you sign up now, we'll be sure to let you know where the gang is staying. When you register, please be sure to fill in your email address. We have an email discussion list for the Laramie event which is not very active but it does provide us a way to communicate with everyone.

Hope to see you in Laramie this year!
